What's the best Windows for gaming, XP, 7, 8.1 or 10?

As a lifelong gamer I can tell you that the newest Windows OS is ALWAYS the best gaming platform. No exceptions.

If nothing else, the latest version of Direct X is always important to play the latest games.

Sure, there are always going to be bugs, and sometimes the folks at Redmond get their heads in a dark smelly place, witness the "lets force the world to use Metro" fiasco. But... Micro$oft knows gaming is one of it's main$tay$, so they $upport it.

Every new version of windows since 3.1 has had specific upgrades with gamers in mind. Even the maligned and misunderstood versions of Windows such as Vista or ME or 8 were superior to play on than the ones before them. And Win 8 actually made it possible to play some beloved old 98-XP era games directly, with no VM.

I am utterly confident that Win 10 will continue Micro$oft'$ dedication to being the go-to game platform. For the very be$t rea$on$.

Depends on what you wish to play,

If you want to play the latest and greatest, nothing beats Windows 10, however if you want to play games from 1990s, you probably need Windows XP or Windows 7.

I can run Red Alert 2 on Windows 7, but it won't run on Windows 10, however If I want to run GTA V on XP, that would be a disaster.

Many people would die in their love for Windows 7, and I understand that because it is due to great stability of that OS, if you're afraid this new Windows 10 is going to be anything less, you are wrong, Windows 10 is supposedly the last Windows ever and Microsoft will support it through updates and upgrades. this gives it an unprecedented advantage at playing modern games. Apart from that, All modern games will now be optimized for DX12, which comes only with Windows 10, a smart move by MS to push people away from sticking to old Windows.

I personally think that you should go with the latest versions of Windows since new hardware and drivers are always targeted for the latest Windows version. Next to that Microsoft will eventually stop providing updates for older versions. A good example is DirectX 12 which is not available for Windows 7. 

It's a hard choice and I suggest you do some good reading (@What’s the best Windows version for gaming, XP, 7, 8.1 or 10?) However if your gaming system is very new I would suggest you use the latest Windows version.

I'm not a gamer myself, but I still personally think that you should make sure you use the latest version.

Windows XP is outdated now. A lot of games are not supported on it anymore.

Windows 7 is awesome! It's been around for ages and is perfectly stable. It's the most recommended. Although now there are games that are not supported on it anymore just because it's old.

I definitely do not like Windows 8.1. Ir's hard to use and is completely different from what Windows users are used to.

I my self use Windows 10. So far I haven't run into any problems running games. Though it does tend to be a little bit unstable, at least more than Windows 7. I believe that as Microsoft keeps working on it it's gonna get even better than Windows 7.

My recommendation is Windows 10. Just because it's gonna keep updating while Windows 7 is not.
